Debt Free Mom is owned by two moms.
Anita Ashland lives in Wisconsin, has been married for almost 20 years, and has four daughters. She has been a freelance writer since college and a writer long before that. The columnist Erma Bombeck was her hero as a teenager and she exchanged letters with her and followed in Erma’s footsteps in small ways by writing columns for local newspapers and the occasional article for local magazines.
She majored in English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison but no one ever told her that the field of copywriting existed and was a viable career option. She discovered copywriting a few years ago and specializes in short copy (catalog, e-mail/autoresponders, web copy, blogs). You can view her website here.
As for her qualifications to write about debt-free living she has been there, done that in terms of being in debt. A combination of student loans, family emergencies and denial beat her down to the ground. The turning point for her was when her copywriter friend Deb Holder sent her the book Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. Since then she has become a student of debt-free living and reads everything she can about the subject. Speaking of Deb…..
Deb Holder lives in South Carolina and is a single mother with two daughters and one son. She fell in love with writing in the fourth grade when a local newspaper published her original article in its column “The Wonderful World of Pets.” She won awards for her writing during grade school and high school.
Deb majored in psychology at Marshall University and worked in the mental health field for a few years, but her love of writing remained strong. She went back to Marshall University and earned a Master’s Degree in English. She’s worked as a freelance writer and has taught college-level English courses. She combines her passion for helping people with her love of writing and specializes in self-help copywriting. She is the owner of MyKaylin Marketing and writes sales letters, autoresponders, articles, and catalog copy.
After living too many years in crisis mode–from paycheck to paycheck–she decided to stop whining and start winning with a new financial strategy. She’s studied Dave Ramsey, David Bach, and Suze Orman, among others. She is featured in David Bach’s bestselling book Smart Women Finish Rich: 9 Steps to Achieving Financial Security and Funding Your Dreams (copyright 2002, pp. 299-300). She’s co-authoring an upcoming book, Wake Up Women, a book written by women for women. The projected publication date is October 2008. You can pre-order an autographed copy of the book here.
