Most delightful home-based business video ever
By Anita |
Many of us who are shoveling our way out of debt work at home for extra income.
Last Saturday the Wisconsin State Journal had a front page, above the fold, story about an 84-year-old woman who started a home-based bakery in 1972 with her two sisters, who are now 99 and 100-years-old.
This story is delightful and inspiring on a lot of levels.
Dolores Kamm now bakes only two days a week and makes 100 loaves at a time. She delivers the loaves all by herself to a local co-op. She hasn’t missed a delivery in 32 years.
You can see a slideshow video of Dolores here. Even though online videos are all the rage now I don’t usually find them very enthralling and I never watch them five times in a row like I did with this one.
Dolores earns $24K per year baking just two days a week and keeps track of her finances on a paper ledger. She started doing daily yoga workouts 28 years ago and continues doing yoga. I’ve only been doing yoga for two months and can already tell the difference. Thanks to Dolores I’m even more inspired to continue.
Notice how the video and article don’t mention how the cost of wheat has risen dramatically in recent months. There is no mention of the economy or of worries of downsizing. And no mention at all of retirement even though she is 84-years-old. I doubt she sits around fretting much about 401K balances and social security payments. She doesn’t have a website and it’s not likely that she has an advertising budget.
Also, you gotta love her Wisconsin accent.
The best part? This: “Everybody doesn’t know their purpose in life. But I thought this is my purpose, to just take care of this family. I took care of my mother and two brothers and a couple sisters, and Joe, and now I’m taking care of the last two. And I keep thinking, ‘Well, that’s what I’m supposed to do.’ So (I) don’t complain. A lot of people don’t know what they’re supposed to do.”
