Confused about the Economic Stimulus Tax Rebate?

By Deb |

If passed, you could get enough cash to pay off some of your debt. Many of us, however, are a little confused about exactly how they’ll calculate your rebate. Here’s a link that should take the guesswork out of your confusion. It will show you just how much you can expect to receive.

I’ve been looking for an answer to a question I have about this tax rebate. Will I have to pay it back the following tax year? I seem to remember that happening the last time we got these checks but I haven’t had a chance to dig out the box with my old tax returns in it yet so I can see the details. Do you know the answer?

Hi, Lisa. It’s my understanding that these rebates are ours to keep. If I find out anything different, I’ll post it on the forum.

I don’t remember paying anything back the last time we had rebates. If any of our readers have definitive answers, please post.

    Thank you for your question.

    Deb

Thanks! I don’t think we actually had to “pay them back” last time. I think we had to claim them in some way on our taxes the following year, though. I’ll try to get to the box of tax returns later today and see if I can find what I’m thinking about.

I just found your website yesterday and am LOVING it! I am very passionate about living debt-free and am really enjoying reading all the archives. Thanks for what you are doing!
