Here’s a statistic we need to change

By Anita |

And here I thought that maybe women were finally starting to earn more money.  I guess not.

Dr. Thomas Stanley has devoted much of his career to studying the millionaire population.  He has written the books The Millionaire Next Door and The Millionaire Mind.

In The Millionaire Mind he says:

Today, there are five men for every one woman who achieves a six-figure earned income.  Even worse, fewer than 10 percent of those earning seven-figure incomes are women.  Women, even in the top-paying professions, earn only about 55 percent of what their male counterparts earn.  As I have often said, the economic deck is stacked against them.

Although the popular press has celebrated the predicted growth in the female affluent population for over twenty years, my survey research does not indicate much change at all.  More than 90 percent of the millionaire population in America is composed of married-couple households…Who is the main breadwinner, financial decision maker, and head of domestic investing within the millionaire household?  The national sureys that I have conducted over the years document that in more than 80 percent of the married millionaire households, it is the husband.
